Wool: Raw Fleeces, Roving, and Washed Fleece
Raw Fleeces
Our raw fleeces are available in white and a variety of natural colors. Coopworth sheep are long-wooled, with a micron count between 35 and 40. Staple length is typically 6 to 7 inches, with a well-defined crimp. The wool is lustrous and features a high degree of loft and elasticity. Our sheep are covered from November (when we begin to feed hay), through shearing in March. Fleeces are meticulously skirted and most weigh from four to six pounds. The yield of our fleeces (the percentage of pre-wash weight remaining after the removal of lanolin through washing) usually averages about 70 percent.
We entered some of our fleeces in the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival fleece show and sale this year for the first time. We were delighted to win first place in the Coopworth division. We also show and sell our fleeces at the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival in Berryville, Virginia, and the New York State Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, New York.
We accept PayPal, MasterCard , VISA or check for payment. Please note that prices shown below do not include shipping. We charge the actual costs of mailing. Unless a buyer directs otherwise, we ship via USPS.
For further information about our wool or to place an order, please call (540-448-4913) or email. We can provide samples of any fleece you might be interested in, as well as pictures of the individual sheep and its fleece.
Current prices (2023) are $19/pound for a lamb fleece and $17/pound for all other fleeces.
The photos below show some representative examples of our fleeces.
